It is a branch of dentistry that examines the soft and hard tissues surrounding the teeth and includes gum diseases and their treatments.

 

Periodontal diseases are disorders of the gums and bones surrounding the teeth. These diseases are caused by genetic factors and microbial dental plaque, often caused by poor oral hygiene.

 

The aim of treatment is to eliminate the underlying factors of gum disease.
