Because it was discovered by the Italian-born Leonardo Fibonacci, the most famous mathematician of the Middle Ages, the Golden Ratio is also called the Fibonacci numbers (Phi). This number perfectly corresponds to the magnificent order of the universe. The closeness of a building or work of art to the Golden Ratio has also been accepted as a measure of its aesthetic beauty.
